Mike Gurr, MS, MA, LPC-S, CDWF Executive Director Mike Gurr holds master’s degrees from the University of Utah in exercise and sports science with an emphasis in sport psychology and from Argosy University Phoenix in professional counseling. He is currently a licensed professional counselor in the State of Arizona and a supervisor as well. Gurr has received licenses to facilitate the work of the Arbinger Institute, which focuses on relationships, stopping blame, how to transform and resolve conflict and teaching the power of choice. He is also a certified daring way facilitator (CDWF), which comes from the research work of Dr. Brené Brown on shame resilience, the power of vulnerability, living in a place of worthiness, and the ability and importance of connection. Gurr also has extensive experience with teens, eating disorders, depression, ADHD, anxiety, low self-esteem, shame, defiance, body image, substance abuse, self-harm, addiction, conflict in relationships, and trauma. Having worked in the mental and behavioral health field since 2001, he spent 13 years as the director of a residential treatment center for teenage girls. During his tenure there, Gurr served as program director, clinical director, and interim executive director. He then went on to successfully helm The Meadows Ranch, MBH’s eating disorders program for young girls and women. When looking at behavioral health, he believes in a total wellness approach: The mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the person all need to be addressed in order to make lasting changes. Gurr’s background compliments his philosophy as he has been a personal fitness trainer, a college athlete, and a mental coach for elite and Olympic-level athletes in his private practice. As director of the girls’ program, he developed a variety of workshops and seminars working with over 2,000 families and students from around the world. A sought-after presenter and speaker Gurr has shared his expertise on the award-winning Dr. Phil show and CBS’ The Doctors several times. In his spare time Gurr loves to go on dates with his wife of more than two decades, read, play basketball, tennis, golf, racquetball, ping-pong, pickleball and spend time with his five kids as they perform, dance, and play in the marching band and various sports. Read More Koren Hudson, LPC CLINICAL DIRECTOR Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Koren Hudson did most of her growing up on the East Coast and the Midwest, moving to Arizona during high school. She received her master’s degree in professional counseling with a concentration in trauma, abuse, and deprivation from Ottawa University, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Hudson is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and more. The Neurosequential Network acknowledges that Koren Hudson has completed NMT Training Certification through the Phase I level. Joining the MBH team in 2022, Hudson brings 15 years of experience in the behavioral health field to this new role as clinical director for The Meadows Adolescent Center. This includes work in outpatient, residential, and inpatient settings. She completed all her licensure hours as a trauma therapist with a significant focus on family therapy to help families understand the impact of trauma while also being able to heal from it. Her lifelong interest in psychology and desire to work with children naturally led her to this career path. Throughout her schooling, she learned how much trauma impacts people’s lives and found a passion for working with adolescents and their families. In her current role, Hudson leads the clinical team by offering guidance and support as they provide clinical services to clients. She’s also tasked with ensuring the program operates in compliance with policies and procedures, continually researching best practices and finding new ways to implement them. She finds joy in working with therapist to help them develop their passion and skills for working with children and their families to help them heal. Married with a blended family of six kids, in her downtime Hudson enjoys hiking, traveling, different family activities, reading, baking, or just staying home and doing family movies. Read More Dr. Sharon Paul, DNP, PMHNP-BC Medical DIRECTOR Known as “Dr. Paul,” Sharon Paul is a doctor of nursing practice in psychiatric-mental health. Dr. Paul came to The Meadows Adolescent Center (TMAC) as a seasoned provider with excellent academic preparation from Saginaw Valley State University, University of Michigan, and Rush Medical University. She moved from Michigan to Arizona in 2006 to work at Remuda Ranch in Wickenburg, going on to work with The Meadows and affiliated programs for 18 years. Since being in Arizona, Dr. Paul’s practice has been extensive, serving individuals in all age groups with all types of psychiatric and mental health needs at various clinics within Maricopa County. The majority of her practice has been with adolescents. Dr. Paul views serving at TMAC as the capstone of her career. The unique challenges of adolescent boys who come to TMAC require an intentional, patient-focused approach. Her experience allows her to design a versatile treatment approach specific to the patient that addresses mental health concerns from substance use, process addictions, and anger issues to mood, anxiety, ADHD, impulse control, and behavioral problems. She is known for incorporating parents’ or guardians’ input to include the use of effective herbs/supplements along with traditional pharmaceuticals to reach desired treatment outcomes. Recently widowed, Dr. Paul has three adult children, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include organic gardening, herbal medicines, and Christian studies. Read More Kimberly Rice, RN Director of Nursing Kimberly Rice grew up on a dairy farm in New York state near the Pennsylvania border. She began her education at Jamestown Community College where she earned an AS degree in nursing. Her career started in telemetry/ICU before she became a traveling nurse, working from coast to coast for more than seven years. She was drawn to Arizona after doing many assignments in the state. Rice began her work in Wickenburg at Remuda Ranch in 2002 before joining the team at The Meadows. She was able to watch the growth and changes as Remuda became The Meadows Ranch. In her nearly two decades working with eating disorder patients, she has been a unit coordinator for the acute care center, an appeals manager where she obtained her CLNC certification and overturned 6.5 million in overturns in five years saving countless families from bankruptcy. She was also house supervisor on the TMR campus for six years before becoming assistant director of nursing in 2019. In fall 2022 she was named director of nursing at The Meadows Adolescent Center. Married to a firefighter/EMT, Rice and her husband have three children and three grandchildren from their blended family. She keeps busy gardening and landscaping the 10 acres where they plan to build a house, homeschooling her youngest, working on DIY projects, and spending time with her family.
